Matched on interests, not just timing
Most random chat sites pair whoever happens to be next in line. We rank the queue on the interests and language you chose, so a conversation has something to start from.
Text, voice or video — your choice
You pick the mode before you queue. If you want a quick anonymous chat, use text. If you want to see who you are talking to, use video. You can switch modes by leaving the queue.
Pseudonymous by default
You get a generated handle such as @user_4f1c. No email address, no phone number, no profile picture required to start talking.
Skip, block and report actually work
Either person can end the conversation instantly. Blocking is mutual and immediate afterwards, and reports go to a review queue rather than being auto-dismissed.

Is it free to talk to strangers on this site?
Yes. numae is free to use — there is no paid tier that unlocks matching, text chat, voice or video.
What happened to Omegle, and is this the same thing?
Omegle shut down in 2023, and it is not coming back. numae is an independent site in the same category — anonymous chat with strangers — but it matches on shared interests rather than pairing people purely at random, and it does not have a bare "unmoderated" mode.
Do I need an account, an email address or a webcam?
You need an account so we can apply blocks and bans, but no email address is required — a guest session is created for your browser. A webcam is only needed if you choose video; text and voice work without one.
Are my conversations recorded?
No. Conversations are not recorded or automatically monitored. Text messages are stored so both participants can see the history within the live session, and they are removed with the session.
How do I report someone?
Use the report action during a session and pick a reason. Reports are reviewed by a person. For anything urgent, the report is flagged for priority review rather than waiting in the normal queue.
Can I choose who I am matched with?
You choose the interests and languages used for matching, and the mode (text, voice or video). You do not browse or pick individual profiles — that is deliberate, and it is what keeps the experience a stranger chat rather than a social feed.
What is the minimum age?
You must be 18 or older to use numae. The service is not intended for, and is not directed at, children.
